Thanks to our Round 1 Judges

We would like to give a special thank you to our judges for Round 1, William and Helen! They not only scored the images but also provided valuable feedback to the competitors.

Helen Brennan

Helen Brennan is a creative director with over fifteen years experience in advertising, design and creative strategy. Hailing from Brisbane, she began her career as a writer, before venturing into the world of graphic design.

Helen has held several positions within the design and advertising industries, including six years as Creative Director of a boutique Brisbane agency, where she was responsible for the inception and implementation of countless creative campaigns.

Her writing and design skills have proven a powerful combination throughout her career, allowing her to see the entire creative process through to fruition. She now works closely with a select group of clients through her own business, Helen Brennan Creative.

Her client work is complemented by her drive to contribute to her industry, influencing a new generation of creative minds through her lecturing role at Design College Australia. She also spent several years serving as Council Member for the Australian Graphic Design Association’s (AGDA) Queensland chapter, and has contributed varied editorial content to industry publications such as Desktop Magazine.

Helen continues her client work, lecturing, writing and industry involvement, most recently introducing professional mentorship to her range of services. A proud social media advocate, Helen admits she gets anxious if she goes too long between tweets.

William Long

Photography is my all-consuming life.
I love what I do, and I do it with an overwhelming passion.

I’m fortunate to work in a field that both inspires and challenges me. The passion never seems to recede; the challenge never seems to diminish; the diversity is always a thrill, a constant path of opportunities and creative solutions. This has enabled me to earn a living at what I love for over twenty five years; working across the globe in UK, Europe, USA, Asia and Australia.

My diverse and innovative approach to my work is a result of a wide and varied professional background. Originally from the UK, I studied both the performing and visual arts, starting my professional life as a performer. A four year involvement in marketing and arts production followed; eventually focussing my energies on my lifelong passion, photography.

My photographic career began prior to the 1980’s, quickly establishing a niche market in the highly specialised field of performing arts photography. I eventually evolved into many areas of commercial and portrait photography. 1990’s brought about a permanent move to Australia, forming Longshots Photography; where I have been mainly involved in the exciting and varied world of architectural, commercial, industrial and lifestyle photography.

Challenge 2 EOI

After a successful ShootingRAW Challenge, we are now working on round 2. There are some changes thanks to the valuable feedback from the first group.

There is no ‘I’ in Team

There will be no individual entries to ShootingRAW for this round. You must enter as a Team.
It will be up to you to find a model, MUA, photographer and whoever else you want in the team. There is a minimum of 2 people per team.
There will only be 3 team spots available.

Portfolio Review

As there are only 3 team positions available you will be required to submit a portfolio for review.
We will then pick 3 teams after reviewing the entries.

Here’s what we want from you for review:

  • Your Website/Facebook link to recent work or attach 5 photos
  • The other team members info; Name, What they are doing (MUA/Model/etc), Website link
  • Nominate a team leader
  • Short paragraph on why you want to participate
  • Email it to: info [at] shootingraw [dot] com [dot] au

Who would suit this challenge?

This challenge is targeted to those who are very comfortable with natural light and can use depth of field in a creative manner.

Pay up or shut up. Kidding.

There will be a fully refundable & transferable entry fee. $150.
If your team is successful and has been selected as one of the 3 teams you will need to pay the entry fee.

Why is there an entry fee now?
We don’t want you to turn up on the day, shoot and then decide not to submit a photo. It’s not fair on us or your team. Should you decide not to submit a photo, we will split the money up between your team members for their time.

When do you get the entry fee back?
Once we have received your photo submission, we will send the money back right away.

Potential Date: Sunday 27th, July.

This round is open to 3 Brisbane teams.
However, if you would like to enter and you are in another location drop us an email.
